USM Haller 1st generation vs. 2nd generation - What you should know!

Around 1990 the time had come, the 1st generation of the USM Haller design classic was replaced by the second generation of the system furniture. There were some changes, new components and elements and functional transformations of the furniture. Reason enough for us to take a closer look at both generations!

Around 1990 the time had come, the 1st generation of the USM Haller design classic was replaced by the second generation of the system furniture. There were some changes, new components, elements and functional transformations of the furniture. Reason enough for us to take a closer look at both generations!

If we were to show you the first generation and a short time later the second generation of the design classic, without you being familiar with both versions, you would hardly be able to tell the difference. Even if you were to place both systems next to each other, no major difference would be visible at first glance.

The difference lies in the details of the system: the biggest problems you will face, at the latest during a planned redesign or disassembly, will be the connectors! While the outer elements of the two USM Haller generations pose no problems whatsoever for assembly and disassembly, the connectors of the first generation have been replaced by connectors that pose new challenges, both visually and technically.

And here they are already:

Connector, 1st generation

Consisting of three elements
(1 x screw, 2 x external clamps / thread).
Disassembly is only possible with a
connector puller of the first generation.

Connector, 2nd generation

Consisting of two elements
(1 x screw incl. plastic cover,
1 x external thread)
Assembly and disassembly is possible
with a second generation tool set.

Once you've determined which generation your furniture is, the whole thing gets a little easier too! For each generation there is an available tool set, with which you can assemble, disassemble and reconstruct your system furniture at will. If you are still unsure, choose the Rudi tool set, this is suitable for both generations.

Conclusion:

Although the differences are generally limited in both generations and you definitely can not talk about a new system furniture, a good eye is required before new changes to the furniture or when buying a tool set. Overall, the disassembly of the USM Haller furniture from the first generation is somewhat more complex, but visually almost no differences are visible to a design specialist!

The rest is a matter of taste and habit.
